Has anyone got this new Word plugin to work?

I installed the plug in: word confirms it has the new plug in. But when I try to " link with word" dewesoft says "word plugin not installed". Tried restarting the PC. Tried running the DCOM registration app. No change.

Dear Nick,

have you downloaded the .zip file from the Dewesoft webpage? Once downloaded, run the install.exe. Then %localappdata%\Dewesoft Extensions\OfficeExtensions\Word should exist. Can you confirm that this directory exists?

Yes that directory exists. Also, as per my Word Screen shot in the original post... Word knows the extension is installed.

We have experienced almost the same problems when the old version of Word was not uninstalled correctly and there were still some old entries in the registry editor. But one step at the time. Could you check if the %localappdata%\Dewesoft Extensions\OfficeExtensions\Common\Log.txt exists? Is there any content in it?

Log attached.

It's a new PC by the way; on its first ever Word installation

@nick arran

There is not enough information that we could help you solve this immediately. If you are willing to help us, I would suggest 2 options:

  • I can send you a new version where we will be able to get more information about the problem. Plugin should be upgraded automatically, but will not be signed (Currently i don't have the access to machine which handles signing -> this means that the plugin will have "unknown publisher", hopefully you will install it nevertheless). Once you click on "Link with Word...", you will get a messageboxes whose text will be numbers. Also, I have added additional checks to output the message (also a messagebox). This should at least give us something to work about. If the message boxes do not appear, then the problem is elsewhere and we will investigate from that point on.
  • Or, if you prefer, we can try to create a teamviewer session, where I will try to narrow the possible error options.I am appending the .zip file, where the procedure is the same (just run install.exe)

I tried with your new plugin install but this happens: We can try Team viewer if you think it will be helpful.

@nick arran

TeamViewer session will be perfect. I will prepare the debug version and we will try to set everything up. Can you reach out to me via email (niko.kolar@dewesoft.com)?

This issue was resolved. The problem was the registration of a dll and should only affect a minor percent of the users. For other users, who experience the same thing, you can test if your problem is the same by following those steps:

1. run CMD as administrator

2.execute command ' cd "%localappdata%/Dewesoft Extensions\OfficeExtensions\Word\Wrappers\" '

3.if you have 32-bit MS Word, run ' RegAsm.exe DewesoftWordPlugin.dll /tlb /codebase '

if you have 64-bit MS Word, run ' RegAsm64.exe DewesoftWordPlugin.dll /tlb /codebase '

if this task fails for you, we will have to set up a teamviewer so we can fix this for you. (until we implement solution as part of a plugin installation process).

@Niko Kolar

Dear Niko,

I apologize for "restarting" this thread, but I have also encountered this problem. I followed every step you and Nick made, up to your last message:

2.execute command ' cd "%localappdata%/Dewesoft Extensions\OfficeExtensions\Word\Wrappers\" '

3.if you have 32-bit MS Word, run ' RegAsm.exe DewesoftWordPlugin.dll /tlb /codebase '

if you have 64-bit MS Word, run ' RegAsm64.exe DewesoftWordPlugin.dll /tlb /codebase '

which for me did not work. In CMD the error returns 'RegAsm64.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Is there anyway you can help me with this?

My log file is the same as nicks:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A1098): Tega ukaza ni na voljo, ker ni odprtih dokumentov.

  at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass.get_ActiveDocument()

  at TestAddIn.ThisAddIn.OpenDocument()

Any help would be appriciated!

Alex

Dear Alex,

it looks like the command RegAsm64.exe is not under the directory %localappdata%/Dewesoft Extensions\OfficeExtensions\Word\Wrappers\. Please refer to the attached image of my directory. Would you please be so kind and send us an image of the firectory %localappdata%/Dewesoft Extensions\OfficeExtensions\Word\Wrappers\.

Kind regards.
