Time ODS: custom VC not created

Hello,

I downloaded the newest DewesoftX 2021.6 software for practicing with the time based ODS function. In the Time ODS set-up I selected my inputs and linked them to the node ID's and I drew my object in the "Geometry editor". When switching to review mode it doesn't show the image, it indicates "Custom VC not created".

What am I doing wrong?

Kind regards,

Leon Dusseldorp

Dear Leon,

I have tried recreating the problem you are facing using the provided pictures, but the problem doesn’t appear in my case. I have created the geometry (just like your) in the Time ODS plugin and it showed up in Display. I am attaching the setup file.

I would kindly ask you to send in your setup file, so we can debug your problem. If you can’t send the setup file I would ask for a video or a more detailed look at the Geometry setup and Time ODS plugin using pictures.

Best regards,

Aljaž Blažun

Dear Aljaz,

Thank you for the quick respons, unfortunately I can't open your file, its only a folder with "Binary files" and a "local.xml" file. I have attached my .DXD file as requested and downzised it to 10 seconds, I hope it's enough.

Regards,

Leon Dusseldorp

Dear Leon,

First, about the .dxs file, I have provided. When downloading it, the browser usually renames the file to a .zip file. If you just change the ending to .dxs you can open it in DewesoftX.

Thank you for the file you have provided. When opening I can see your geometry in the ODS Time display. Just make sure you set your model source to “Time ODS” (bordered on the picture below). The geometry can be also seen in the Measure screen, but you need to change the source there as well.

If the problem still exists after changing the source, please let me know.

Best regards,

Aljaž

Dear Aljaz,

I still can't open your file after renaming it. But in my file, when going to review, I don't get the setup for the widget (see picture).

Weird that the program does something different with you.

Regards,

Leon.

Dear Leon,

I’m sending the file once again. Now I have zipped it before sending it. Inside the zip file, there should be dxs file.

May I ask you which release of DewesoftX 2021.6 are you using? You can check under Options -> About Dewesoft.

Best regards,

Aljaž

Dear Aljaz,

I downloaded and installed a (4 days) newer version (2021.6 release 220103) and now it works fine. Thank you for your time and effort.

Leon

Dear Leon,

I am happy to hear that you have solved your problem. After talking with developers we are assuming that the “Modal Geometry” widget was outdated or not working. It looks like this was fixed using an update.

Best regards,

I'm using Version: 2022.2 (RELEASE-220627) (64-bit) and I have the same problem that was described above: "Custom VC not created". When I click on the geometry widget, the widget setting panel on the left is blank. The same think happens in the geometry widget of the MT ODS display. What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Joe

I, too, have had this problem from 2021.6 onwards. In our case it was a hardware problem - some chipset feature was missing. DEWESoft provided me with a new DLL which got over the initial error for modal testing, but on closer scrutiny in the last few days I noticed that the "custom VC not created" error where I expected to see the animated structure...

Dear Joseph and John,

thank you for reaching out to us. The Modal Geometry widget is used for displaying the geometry. Please check if the ModalGeometry widget is installed under the Addons folder.

Kind regards.

@Gregor Šmit. I have checked this and can confirm it is present.

Dear John,

would you please be so kind and tell us some additional information:

- Are you running DewesoftX as an administrator? If yes can you start DewesoftX as a user.

- Can you please run the DCOMReg.exe which is next to DEWEsoft.exe in the Bin64 folder. Please select Addons and then press Register. Are there any issues while registering the module? Is the issue still present?

- Was DewesoftX update from a previous version or did you perform a clean install?

Thank you and kind regards.

@Gregor Šmit

Apologies for the delay. For some reason I did not get a notification of this request (that is my story!). I will get you this information when I am next in the office and using one of our older tablets where we experience this problem (I hope to do this on 12 October).

@Gregor Šmit

I have at long last got into the office and tested some hardware. It would appear that running DCOMREG is what was needed. I placed the modified dll in the appropriate folder and ran DCOMREG and the geometry appeared correctly in the MT window as expected.

I am no longer convinced. I have carried out the same steps on a different tablet and while I can create the Modal parameters without issue, the geometry place holder in the measurement instrument continues to show "custom VC not created".

I will try again with a completely fresh install of DEWESoft - removing everything and cleaning the registry - before I pull my hair out.

UPDATE 2022-11-10: I removed DEWESoft completely, ran CCleaner to remove leftover registry entries and then installed DEWESoft 2022.3 from the beginning. I think I restarted and then added the modified modaltestcalc64.dll to the Bin64 folder. I then ran DCOMREG and it all appears to be working.

I have attached the modified dll here in a Zip archive in the hope that it will help others who may have the same problem.
