Question about using the scaling module

I'm logging force vs strain for a calibration task. From the strain sensor I would like to record both the microstrain and also the raw mV signal of that same channel.

In the channel setup its set as a strain device (with microstrain output)

I then have a scaling module set for that channel and it seems to want to convert it to mV/V as its "Scaled" unit.

Am I doing this properly?

In my mind it seems backwards. I feel like the mV signal would be the raw signal while the microstrain would be scaled. But then again, I can set the sensor as microstrain and get voltage from the scaling module but I can not set the sensor as mV and get microstrain from the scaling module.

It doesn't bother me how the task is being handled as long as it works. I don't know if I'm doing it correctly.

In the manual it talks about toggling the scaling from Scaled to Raw but I don't see how that's changing anything.

Dear Lemmy,

to have both Raw and scaled signal saved you need to set the Analog Input channel to Raw and then use this channel in the Scaling math and select the Scaling from Sensor. All the scaling properties should be set and taken from the sensor also the Units.

Let me know if you will have any additional questions.

I've set the Input channel to Raw and in the Scaling Math selected Scaling from sensor in the dropdown. T
he units do not change unless I change then manually (is this normal?) and when in measure mode both signal output values are identical, leading me to believe its not picking up the scaling properties from the Input Channel.

My AE tells me this is a known bug and should be fixed within the next release or so.

Dear Lemmy,

may I ask who is the AE that you are in contact with, so we can get in touch with him.

I have tested the 2020.1 version and the Units are properly updated when you go to Measure mode. Attached is also a screen recording of my setup.

I used a sensor with 100 Scaling factor. In the Measure screen you will see that the channel from the Scaling math has the appropriate units and value.

Dear Lemmy,

we will have one additional question.

What kind of sensors do you use? Do you have TEDS chips, or just sensors defined in the Analog sensor database?

Yes, I'll move this discussion over to the private support section.
