I have been using Dewesoft X3 SP8 as it is the last version of dewesoft that allowed my (quite old: Dell Precision M4600 with an NVidia Quadro 1000M GPU ) workstation to use the mapping tool. As an experiment I installed dewesoft X 2020.1 64 .. this works without killing Dewesoft X3 SP8 (though my pc doesn't support the mapping tool in that version). But now the mapping tool doesn't work in dewesoft X3 SP8 either!!

I tried uninstalling X 2020.1; then uninstalling and reinstalling X3 SP8 ,,, but still I get the message "Custom VC not created". Any ideas?

I could spend £2000 on a new workstation ... but it's a lot just to get the otherwise excellent mapping tool working!

Dear Nick,

can you check in the "Installed extensions" option if the MAP widget is installed properly? The Custom VC not created is usually referring that you do not have the VC in the Addons folder or the VC is not properly registered.

Also how did you install the 2020.1 version? Did you place the installation in the new folder?

Would it be possible that we connect to your PC remotely?

OK. I tried some stuff to get it back. Uninstalled 2020.1 then re-installed it; then installed X3 SP8 again (both using the off line installation files). 2020.1 is installed in C:\Program Files\DewesoftX. X3 SP8 is installed in C:\dewesoftX3.

Now the mapping tool will start in X3 SP8 but shows the following message in the map VC window

I know my PC doesn't support direct 3d 11. Following some previous advice (when trying and failing to get the map VC to work in SP10) I changed a bit of the file VCEngine.xml

from:

<GraphicsDevice Debug="false" EngineType="Direct3D11" AdapterType="Auto"/>

to

<GraphicsDevice Debug="false" EngineType="OpenGL" AdapterType="Auto"/>

Then I get a flash message "rendering is disabled" before the Map VC window shows a portion of the PC screen.

I was suprised the VCEngine.xml defaulted to Direct3D as I'm sure it didn't before. Something must have changed in the GPU setup on my PC

Maybe I need a new PC! My colleague's very basic but much newer office laptop runs the map VC OK. My 32GB i7 workstation just won't play ball! My panasonic toughbook won't run any version of the map VC as it doesn't support Open GL 4.

PS: you are welcome to take over my PC for a while if it helps fix this. Thanks

Admin ... you can delete this thread. I got it working again by doing a complete clean reinstall of the GPU driver, after the installation of dewesoft X3 SP8 and 2020.1. Something had killed my graphics driver (maybe a windows update even). Works again now, so sorry to trouble you.
