Limitations of the AutoExport Extension

Hi,

I am currently utilizing the AutoExport extension to automate the export of data acquired in DewesoftX to MATLAB. However, I have encountered several limitations and would appreciate any insights or solutions from those with experience in this area.

1. Channel Prefixing Behavior

The AutoExport extension automatically adds a prefix to each channel during export. In contrast, manual export allows users to choose whether to include such prefixes. Notably, the extension's settings interface does not provide an option to disable this feature. Has anyone else faced this issue, and if so, have you found a workaround or solution? While I am aware that multi-file export can be performed manually, I am seeking to automate this process as well.

2. Channel Selection Limitations

Within the measurement setup, it is possible to select channels for export; however, this functionality appears to be limited to analog channels. Channels originating from CAN or other plugins cannot be individually selected for export. Is there a method to configure the setup to export only the relevant channels, including those from CAN, Math, and various plugins? You find below a screenshot illustrating this problem: upon clicking on "Modify Columns," the window that appears does not display the "Exported" section. This section is essential as it allows me to select or deselect the channels I wish to export.

I appreciate any assistance or suggestions the community can provide.

Thank you in advance.

Dear Cosimo,

thank you for reaching out to the Dewesoft community. Please allow me to jump straight to your questions:

1. Channel Prefixing Behavior

Auto export will always perform the export based on the settings it can pull from the manual export. To remove prefix from channel names please:

  • Make a dummy datafile on the PC you use for measurements, and store it
  • Open the datafile, configure manual export settings in matlab as you'd like the channels to be exported
  • Perform manual export

After that, the export settings will be saved and manually applied to Auto Export. I have attached a video to this answer.

2. Channel Selection Limitations

To manually select which channels will and will not be exported, please use the Channels module, enter the Edit Columns setup and select the Exported column. You can then manually select which channels you would like to export:

Please do let us know if you have any additional questions.

Best regards,

Pika

Dear Pika,

I am still encountering issues with AutoExport’s prefix addition. As you can also see in your example, in the MATLAB environment the exported channels had a “Data_1_” prefix, which I don’t want.

This could be avoided if the export were automatic, since one can choose whether or not to add the prefix—but in AutoExport’s main menu this option isn’t selectable.

I’m not quite sure if the steps you showed me resolve this problem or whether I didn’t explain myself clearly enough earlier.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Cosimo

Dear Cosimo,

the Channel prefix tab doesn't refer to the "Data_" part of the name, but rather to the Channel number and Description - if nothing is selected under the Generate Matlab names from tab:

The DataX tag you are looking to remove refers to how DewesoftX catalogs triggeres data and view groups (the parts that are denoted by start/stop markers), for instance:

To remove this, please set the Trigger index format to None:

The attached link leads to a google drive folder with a video demonstration of the behaviur.

Best regards,

Pika
