Few questions on opc server / client plug-in

I demoed the opc server plug-in about a month ago. It did not appear that there was an option to send text / string channel information. We test hundreds of different components and the data we take is only valid for a particular part number which is stored in global variable. Without this field just being able to upload math/analog data would be useless.

opc server also did not appear to be able to prevent / deselect control channels. I would not want a remote system to open/close certain valves for example.

Does the opc-client have the option to receive text / string channels?

I can confirm that publishing String values, global variable for example, is not possible with the recent version of OPC UA server. This hasn't been supported yet. I understand that this must be important for your kind of measurements so I just added the request to the development list.

Can we elaborate on "opc server also did not appear to be able to prevent / deselect control channels."? For me I could normally leave "Unused" control channels. Using 2023.1 (RELEASE-230123) and OPC UA Server v3.2.6

OPC UA Client has the option to receive String channels but for some reason this doesn't work in the last version v3.0.0. This was just reported to devs. I will inform you when it's fixed.

I was using an older version of dewesoft, I am on 2022.6 which looks totally different with no options to select / unselect channels.

There has been quite some improvement since 2022.6, however reading string channels is still problematic in the recent version of Client. As I mentioned in the previous response, the problems are on the development roadmap.

Similarly publishing string values on a Server was added as a feature request.

We are going to implement a CSV to OPC conversion in python since its about 30 lines of code. Thanks
