Dewesoft X3 questions

Greetings,

I am seeing Dewesoft X3 software in the downloads section and I am curious about various aspects. I am building new test systems right now and I am thinking that it might be better to develop with the new software instead of transitioning later.

What is the status of X2? Will it be frozen? When will it be unsupported?

Currently, I see no stable releases of X3. Will that happen soon? Is there a timeline for when X3 becomes main stream?

Are there any backwards compatibility issues with X2?

What are the main features and improvements?

Hi,

X2 will remain on the web page but it will only receive critical bug fixes. New features will not be added to it and it will not be actively developed anymore.

A stable release of X3 should be coming in about a month or so. There should be no backward compatibility issues, meaning that you can open X2 data and setup files in X3. The only potential problem is that some visual controls still don't have their 64-bit versions. This should be resolved soon enough. As for forwards compatibility, it remains the same as up to this point. You will not be able to open data files created with X3 in X2, but you should still be able to use setup files freely between them.

Probably the main reason to switch to X3 is that DEWESoft finally has a 64-bit version. This allows the program to access more memory and is, therefore, able to perform better in larger scale applications. There are of course also other notable improvements, such as the redesigned and improved power module, the implementation of the DS-Grind into the counters, function generator and A/D out modules. Some visual controls, such as the recorder have also been improved to allow more tick option, you're now able to zoom in and drag channels up and down the y axis,... I also believe that cross-triggering is now supported for NET configurations. These are just some of the things that I can think of off the top of my head. All of the details should be issued out when a stable version is released.

If you're going to be setting up new tests systems I would also recommend doing as you've already suggested, to start building them with X3 and then make the transition to the stable version when it comes out shortly. If you happen to run into any bugs be sure to let us know about them.
