Hello, we have some Win10 machines on which the Print Spooler service is disabled for security reasons.

Unfortunately Dewesoft does not start (nothing happens) when the Print Spooler service is disabled.

Can this be fixed?

we have tried disabling the Print spooler service, but Dewesoft launched normally.

Is this how you disabled it or did you do it differently?

Yes, I stopped and disabled the Print Spooler service (spollsv.exe) in the Computer Management console.

If the spooler is active no error occurs, but when I disable the Printer Spooler service Dewesoft X3sp9 starts with this error:

I did a new test with DewesoftX_2023.3_230525_x64.exe but here the Dewesoft GUI never starts.

The same if Print Spooler service is active or not.

Maybe the Windows setup on this (virtual) machine is corrupt.

Hi, on a normal PC Dewesoft 2023.3 shows up, but not on my virtual testmachine (Win 2019 Server OS).

Dewesoft 2023 is not even generating any logs on this machine.

X3 shows up, but with errrors when Print Spooler ist disabled. Stange..

Hi,


the reason for your issues could be also directx setting in dewesoft.

By default, this option is enabled, but you can disable it by adding selected txt into your project file.

Attached is also a default project file with Directx disabled.

I would suggest using it with the latest Dewesoft release from the web page.

Hi, unfortunately we can't switch to a new Dewesoft version easily because this has huge impact: we have 100s of installations and setups and measurement files are not compatible if some units have a different version.. So I want to use X3 as long as possible. With X3 I only have this issue above if the Print Spooler service is deactivated on my test machine. I test every new software on this machine first but my test of Dewesoft 2023 was negative because the SW does not even start.

we think there are different reasons why Dewesoft X3 is not working and why 2023.

With Dewesoft X3, there is an issue with printer spooler disabled.

We have tested version 2023 with printer spooler disabled, but it worked normally. It is possible that in your case Dewesoft doesn't start because the Directx is enabled.

Could you maybe test version 2023 one more time, but with the project file we sent you in previous reply?

Hi, I installed Dewesoft 2023 again in Analyzer mode. But Idon't see any setup files in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Dewesoft\Setups or C:\Program Files\DewesoftX which I could edit.

Hi,


there should be a *.dxp (project) file in system folder.

You can edit that one (usually it is named default.dxp) or remove it and copy the one from previous in the folder.

Hi,


the project file is generated when Dewesoft is first started.

Please try copying the project file into this folder and start Dewesoft.


If this will not work, can we check the system via Teamviewer?

I took the project file from a real PC where Dewesoft 2023 showed up, added the DirectX code below and copied the new file in the system folder of my virtual Win2019 server.

But same issue, nothing happens when I try to start Dewesoft..

thx to Dewesoft support DewesoftX 2023 is now starting as expected on Win2019 VM,

Solution was: wlanapi.dll has to be enabled

  • go to the Server Manager and then to Add Roles and Features
  • under Features please enable Wireless LAN Service and press Next and then Install 
  • reboot VM
