Derived Vector Sum Channel from Triaxial Vibration Channels (X,Y,Z)
Hello all,
I need to compare different hardware's vibration signatures and instead of analyzing and comparing each channel separately (X,Y,Z), I need a single derived vibration channel by summing X,Y,Z channels (as Vector Sum in LMS Testlab) from triaxial vibration data and do FFT analysis etc. on the single derived channel.
Is there a Dewesoft tutorial/video showing how to do Vector Sum for vibration channels or a way to do that by selecting the desired channels in the Dewesoft user interface.
Note: I am aware of writing a math function (for real and imaginary parts of the vectors) option in Dewesoft but it is not user friendly and I am not sure if that calculation considers frequency domain also so the frequency analysis part may or may not be accurate.

Dear Matt,
from the link below you can see what the Vector Sum in LMS is: https://community.sw.siemens.com/s/article/calculate-a-vector-sum-to-make-understanding-vibration-data-easy
The formula for a VECTOR SUM of a triaxial vibration measurement consisting of X, Y and Z is as follows:
In Dewesoft, the Vector sum can be calculated with the formula:
The formula knows how to operate with time-domain channels, vectors, and complex channels.
So you can do the same operation for FFT vectors:
Unfortunately, there is no function that would calculate vector sum out of the box.
We support Vector sum calculation in the Human Body vibration module. The vector sum is calculated for RMS, VDV, MTVV and MSDV value.
Best regards,
Hi Jernej,
Thank you for your detailed answer, I am aware of LMS approach that was the reason I mentioned in my previous post to understand if Dewesoft has something similar and user friendly (out of the box as you mentioned) but as I understand from your reply Dewesoft does not have such feature.
To be clear, in Dewesoft directly from the user interface having the function to select and sum 3 or only 2 channels (e.g. X and Z or any other combinations etc.) and compare their frequency content would be really handy (as in Dewe Human Vibration module), take this as a feature request also thanks.

Dear Matt,
thank you for the feedback. For sure we will consider this feature request. Maybe an instant solution would be to write a custom C++ script directly in Dewesoft that would make a vector sum of time or frequency domain channels.
Best regards,
