Combining Data Files
I am using Dewesoft X 2021 for collecting vibration data on a vehicle. During the last test run I had to start and stop the DAQ multiple times due to vehicle issues. Is it possible to combine these files into a single .dxd file?

Hi Andrew,
You can mark data files which are made with the same setup and choose "Multifile Export".
Data files will be reworked into a multifile and can be opened as one data file, just mark the exported files and press enter to open them.
Notice that all of the "not storing" time will be shown as a blank data file because the data files will be putted on the time axis referring to the absolute time of storing.
Best Regards.

Hi.
I'm using this instruction to combine data sets which I got to work, however when opening the multifile exports there's a very long dead space between each data set.
When acquiring the data originally I set a storing parameter to "Stop storing after" 2 seconds.
So each data file is only two seconds long but upwards of 55 seconds of nothing between sets.
How do I concatenate this?

Hello,
Unfortunately, the blank pockets between files are result of absolute timing when putting the data on the time axis.
In your case would be a lot better if you would record a multifile with "fast storing on trigger, slow otherwise" that trigger can be defined as user input channel with button in measurement window.
One way to import the channels without the gaps between files would be that you record a "blank" data file which is longer that all the data files are long in combined and use Import option for importing the channels into that "blank" data file with offset. Video example attached on Drive.
I hope that works for you.

Hi.
I believe I tried the "fast storing on trigger, slow otherwise" and it wouldn't let me multifile export. I would have to try again to be sure.
Furthermore, there's a strange behavior; when selecting multifiles for analysis the upper title bar doesn't update.
For instance. When selecting "RH_Vert-Up_..."
The title bar shows a selection made at the start of software launch:

Hi.
This behaviour that the name of files isn't correct is not a known behaviour. Did you rename the files manually by hand?
Which version of DewesoftX are you using?
Is that error from the above screenshot somehow related with opening these multifiles?
Kind regards
@Matjaž Strniša
Version: 2021.2 (RELEASE-210430) (64-bit)
I always name the files from the Storing tab in Measure mode. In very rare instances I'll rename them from within the Analyze>Data Files window but that's not the case in the above example. In the above example Dewesoft has done all the naming (short of the root name), including appending the _exp.
I don't think the error in the screenshot was related to the multifile. I just re-opened those same files and the error is not present. I believe that is from a fussy math channel. I had a AE here looking into some other things with me and he wanted to look closer at that error. Unrelated to the title bar.
That said, when opening up the multifile just now there is now a totally DIFFERENT file name at the top of the title bar. A file in a separate folder that I never opened since software launch. So I don't know where its pulling the titles from.
Have a look through the log files if you'd like.

Okay
after some extensive testing trying to duplicate this title bar issue I think I can repeat it.
You must first select and load (or double click) a single data file- not a multifile.
From there if you select a multifile set and hit enter, it will retain the title of the single file selected in step one.

Hello,
This was reproduced from our side and reported to our developers as a bug.
Thank you for your explanation on how to get it reproduced.
I'll get back to you here when the issue will be resolved.
Best regards.

Hello Lemmy,
I would like to inform you that this issue was resolved in version 2021/5/RC-210914 which is available on our website.
Best regards.
Hi all
I tried this method but for some reason, there is nothing under Exported Channels. Anyone know why?

Dear mr. Nguyen,
thank you for reaching out to us.
From the image you've shared with us, I can see that you are trying to export multiple files via Multifile export set to Dewesoft export, and can see that you are unable to select which channels you would like to export. This behaviour commonly occurs when users try select Multifile export with datafiles whose channels do not have the same channel index. As an example, such behaviour would happen if we added/removed a channel, or switched the order of channels (for instance, in the Math module):
Would you mind checking if you have perhaps added or removed any channels between the datafiles you would like to export, or modify the order of any channels?
If the channel IDs are the same, would you mind sharing which version of DewesoftX you are using, and sharing the datafiles with us? The software version can be found under options -> About DewesoftX, and here's a link to an article about sending datafiles to us.
Best regards,
Pika

I did add a few channels, I will remove and try again, thanks for the help.
ok, I got it to show the channels but after exported, it created 2 files, I selected both and click enter but it only opened 1 file. Any idea why? did i do something wrong?
Dear mr. Nguyen,
when using the Multifile option to export multiple files at once, it is expected that we will export each file separately, but at the same time. This is why you are getting two separate datafiles after the export. These files usually have an _exp suffix. The exported files can then additionally be opened at the same time, while the two original files cannot:
However, I am not sure why you cannot open one of the files.
Would it be possible for you to send the datafiles over to us? Both the original datafiles you have recorded, as well as the files you have exported, so that we can see exactly what's going on? Here are some of the more common ways DewesoftX users use to share their files with us.
Best regards,
Pika

Hi Pika
I would love to share but its proprietary data, unfortunately.
I see the _exp suffix, and I was able to open each separately, just not together. It gave me a message: Selected files are not from the same multifile session.
Dear Mr. Nguyen,
if I understand correctly, you've made a multifile export of two datafiles, then tried to open the two _exp datafiles together, but received the following warning: "Selected files are not from the same multifile session".
It will be difficult for us to determine the reason for this warning without access to the datafiles, as we cannot make any tests on our own this way.
- Have you made any other modifications to the setup of the second datafile? Changed any channel information, added removed channels/mathematics, added or removed devices, changed sample rates, ...?
- Are the names of the datafiles the same, with an exception of the final multifile number?
- How much time has passes between the data sessions, and have you entered the Channel setup between the sessions?
Best regards,
Pika

Let me try all those suggestions. thank you
