Hi all,

Some help required for a Dewesoft newcomer. I'm using a DEWE43 unit, I have four strain guages connected to it via four of the analog inputs. What I want to do is set an alarm to be triggered when a certain strain value is reached which then triggers a switch of some description (presumably connected through the sync port?) to cut power to our machine.

Does this sound reasonable and is there anything else I should consider? What output connector would be required, etc?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I've attached an example file that uses alarms. The condition for triggering the alarms is currently tied to a user input channel, so you can manually trigger the digital output. If you enter a value greater than 10 in the white box, the alarm will trigger and output a 1. I've connected the sync cable to a DS-TRIGGER-BOX, which transforms the three pins of the sync connector to three BNC outputs. In my case, I output the signal on the resource pin, which I then connect to the AI channel with a BNC cable and a BNC to DSUB-9 converter. The analog channel reads 5 V when the alarm is triggered (can be seen in the attached data file).

For your application, you can just change the alarm conditions so that the alarm will trigger based on the AI (strain gauge) values. In the attached zip file, there is also an image that labels the sync connector (taken from the DEWE 43 manual). You also don't need the DS-TRIGGER-BOX, you can just make the connections yourself, but the box might be a more convenient option.

I hope this will help you out :).

That's excellent, thanks very much!

If I undertand correctly then, I can connect one pin of the sync connector to a relay or a similar which could be activated upon triggering of the alarm? Assuming I had set it up correctly of course!

It's no problem and yes, that's exactly right.

Brilliant, much appreciated.

One more thing, I wonder where I might be able to purchase the DS trigger box you mentioned? This could be a useful tool but I can't seem to find it in the catalogue or elsewhere online.

You're welcome.

I'm not exactly sure why the product is not visible anywhere online, I'll have to check that with our marketing department, but I'm pretty sure that it's available for purchase, since I can see it in our internal web shop. If you're interested in it, you can contact your local DEWESoft dealer who will be able to provide you with a quote and help with any other questions. You could also send a quote request via the website and I'll put you in contact with the correct dealer for your country.
