DCOM Error returns

I don't see errors when I expect to.
For example, if I load a setup file that doesn't exist, I dont get any error indication (either HRESULT or ERRORINFO).

Why?

Also, if a nonexistent setup is "loaded", querying the setup (GetUsedSetupFile) returns the nonexistent filename. So there is no way to determine if the correct setup has been loaded without error.

The fact that DEWESoft does not report errors pretty much makes this DCOM solution worthless. We were really hoping to use it.

Hi,

I'm sorry for a late response to this topic. I've recently spoken to our core developer and I can unfortunately confirm that error reporting in a way that you've described it is currently not present in DEWESoft/DCOM. If you want, I could add feature requests to add certain error results for specific functions.

Is that something that would be beneficial to you?

Of course.

If there is no way to tell that functions have completed without error, it is not useful.

Hi,

other than "Load Setup", which other functions do you think could use the error return option the most for your use case?

We would use load setup, StartStoring to specified file, and it would be good if the function AddNewEvent worked (it does not seem to).
We'd like to add test events during recording.

Hi,

I've added this to the wish list. I'll let you know if/when it gets implemented.

As for your second request, I'm able to add an event without problems. Please take a look at the attached image. If you still have issues, please share some details regarding the events you're using.

I would guess you see this working due to the version of SW running on the DEWETRON instrument.

We have many instruments at version 7.0.2. The one I've been testing has version 7.1.1. On 7.1.1 I also get error in expected for the load setup command but not the store to file command. Add event indicates something like 'not a know cmd' or something similar.

Hi,

I was not aware that you are using DEWESoft V7. That changes things a bit. As an almost obsolete program, DEWESoft V7 only receives urgent bug fixes, while its development is continued in the X3 branch. If the development team decides to implement the error return features that I've added to our system, then please be aware that those will only be added to the latest version of X3, as that is the development branch.

Back to the events, I've switched to the latest DEWESoft V7.1.3, and I'm still able to add the notice event (attached image). Please try to update your DEWESoft to this version, and see if that will allow you to correctly add the same event. If it still won't work, then I think it's fair to say that the issue is somewhere on your end.

Is the X3 branch compatible with our hardware or is new equipment required?

We have many DEWE-3211 and I believe most have MDAQ-SUB-V-200 modules.
