Working with differential incremental encoders
Hi,
I would really like to use a differential incremental rotary encoder (RS422) together with my Siriusie 8ACC+ with two counter inputs. One thing we have done previously is to use only one side of the signals, which worked ok, but we now face areas where the noise lowering capabilities of the differential encoder could come in handy.
We could possibly design a differential receiver ourselves, but that would of course need some research and testing to ensure good functionality. Have DEWESoft or any user any experience in this?
Additionally, I was thinking about trying to input the positive signal on one CNT input and the negative on the other, and do the math in software. I realize this may only work in my simplified theory and that there are a few downsides and complexities to ensuring proper signal handling here. Any comments on this approach?

Dear Benjamin,
After a discussion with the product team, I was informed that we're working on a DSI adapter which will convert a differential signal to a standard TTL signal on Dewesoft DAQ devices. Testing of the adapter is already ongoing. The adapter will be named DSI-CNT-DIFF.
The ETA of the product release is not defined yet. How urgent do you need this solution?
Best regards.
Rok
Hi Rok,
Thanks for the positive reply. We will start testing now, but it will become critical by the end of the year.

Hi Rok and Support,
Any news on the DSI-CNT-DIFF?

Customer Support Engineer
Hi Benjamin,
I was informed by the Hw engineers that this product is still marked as in development.
But it was presented on the measurement conference so it should be released shortly. The product owner is currently on a business trip, so when he returns we will have more information.
Best regards,
Rok
