Connecting Omega Hot Wire Anemometer to STG

Hello,

I would like to connect to the anemometer pictured below to a STGv2 slice. The PWR +, PWR -, and Analog Output pins are all that need connection to operate, we do not need the alarm functions. I would like to supply excitation from the slice.

I believe I need to connect the Analog Output pin to In + (2), PWR - to Exc - (8), and Exc + (1) to PWR +. I am concerned about connecting In - (7) to PWR - if I am also using it for excitation supplied by the slice. I am wondering if I alternatively need to connect PWR - to Gnd (4), or if I need to re-think this.

Thanks

Dear Justin,

thank you for reaching out to us.

Would you mind giving us some additional information?

  • Could you give us the specifications for the sensor?
  • Which device do you plan to connect the sensor to?

Best regards,

Pika

Hi Pika,

The sensor is measuring airflow through an anemometer. It already provides the signal conditioning, and sends a single-ended 0-5VDC output to the 'ouput' pin.

I would like to read the single ended signal output from this device, while also supplying power from the STG Sirius slice in Voltage differential mode.

My question is, if I run it in Differential, do I still need need to connect In (-) ? If so, can I connect it to GND?

Dear Justin,

thank you for the additional information.

Sirius STGv2 modules can power devices that require up to 100 mA to work (max. 800 mW)

As per the image you've sent, the sensor requires 15-24V or 200 mA power supply, so unfortunately, you will not be able to supply sufficient excitation from the slice to the sensor to power it.

You can still connect the device in Single ended mode, as per the following scheme:

Best regards,

Pika
